Javid Afsari Rad
Javid Afsari Rad (b. 1965), plays a number of instruments, the Persian santur being his main instrument. He has lived in Norway since 1986 and comes originally from Iran, where he studied classical Persian music. Javid is also a composer and is artistic director of the ensembles ComboNations, Rumi Ensemble and Norwegian World Orchestra. The music he composes is strongly inspired by the Persian tradition he studied in Iran, but also by his study of Western classical music in Norway. He has toured throughout much of the world and has composed a number of commissioned works, including one for the Norwegian Radio Orchestra in 2006. In 2008 Javid was named the Municipality of Oslo “Artist of the Year”. One of his main projects is to create new and exciting musical expression through the fusion of diverse musical traditions. His groups feature musicians from, among other countries, Iran, India, Morocco, Ivory Coast and Senegal.

ComboNations
ComboNations, established in 2000, is a group founded and led by Javid Afsari Rad. He composes and arranges the music and plays the Persian santur. The idea behind the project is to bring together and showcase the crème de la crème of World Music based in Norway. Javid resides in Oslo, but comes originally from Iran. The other musicians in the group have roots from India, Ivory Coast, Senegal and Morocco. The band attests to the rich and multicultural musical milieu of Norway. The musicians are virtuosos on their chosen instruments, not only by Norwegian standards, but in an international context as well, and with backgrounds embracing different cultures and music traditions, they create together musical expression that is entirely new. An air of playfulness and the wish to overcome barriers and limits have been the driving force behind this ensemble.

Javid Afsari Rad Ensemble ble etablert av Javid Afsari Rad i 2007 og består av Javid på
det persiske instrumentet santur, en strykekvartett, en kontrabassist og en perkusjonist.
Ensemblet ga ut sitt første album i 2007, da under navnet Rumi Ensemble. Ensemblet
spiller komposisjoner av Javid som er inspirert av persisk, indisk og arabisk
musikktradisjon. Javid vokste opp i Iran, men har bodd 30 år i Norge. Dette har gjort at
musikken hans også har fått et preg av vestlig klassisk musikk. Ensemblet består av høyt
profilerte musikere i Norge innen klassisk musikk, verdensmusikk og jazz. I August 2017
ga de ut sitt andre album «Lalehzar» på Jazzland Recordings.
